Civil servants to demonstrate in Western Region

Sekondi, June 28, GNA – The Western Region branch of the Civil and Lo cal Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLGSAG) is to organize a demonstration on July 08 in protest at the government’s refusal to open u p negotiations with the association over salary increases.

Mr. Kwamena Otu-Odoom, the Regional Secretary of the Association, tol d the GNA in an interview on Sunday that similar demonstrations would be organized in all municipalities and districts in the region. He said the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Ghana Tra des Union Congress (GTUC) and the Fair Wages Commission on 10 per cent salary

increase was not binding on the CLGSAG that is not an affiliate of the TU C or any other labour organization.

Mr. Otu-Odoom said the CLGSAG is a separate organization operating un der the labour laws of the country and had the right to negotiate with the government on the condition of service of its members. He said the association was not involved in the negotiations and was only informed of the salary increase through a letter from the Ministry o f Finance and Economic Planning.
