Child training is collective responsibility of the teacher and parents

Accra Aug. 17 GNA – Mrs Elizabeth Ama Asare, Headmistress of Tema Secondary School has said that the education of the child is not the responsibility of the teacher and school authorities, but the collective duty of all including parents and guardians.

She said education is the only legacy that could be bequeathed to a child by a relative or a parent, adding, parents should give their children the needed education for them to become useful future leaders. Mrs Asare made the call at the 15th Anniversary Celebration/Speech and prize given day of the Happy Kids School at Kwashieman in Accra. It was on the theme “Quality Education: A legacy for our Children”.

Mrs Asare said the child or student’s mind and character is developed formally or informally by either giving him assiduously tuition by the teacher at school and parents and guardians at home. She appealed to parents and guardians to provide the needed basic learning materials to supplement the government efforts at offering quality education to the children.

She said education is an essential tool for development and therefore entreated parents to have time for their children at home, teach them the Ghanaian rich tradition and culture.

Madam Jemima N. Nartey, Proprietress of Happy Kids School said the school that was established in 1993 with only a pupil (one boy), now has a total pupil population of 1,500 from pre-school to Junior High three. She said the school presented one candidate for the 2004 BECE and he passed successfully, adding that, the school has been performing excellently in the BECE in the ever since with an enviable 100 percent passes.

Certificates and prize awards were given to deserving students for their excellent academic performance.
