Chief Justice orders arrest of two judicial officers

Kumasi, March 2, GNA – The Chief Justice, Mr Justice George Kingsley Acquah, has ordered the Ashanti Regional Police Command to immediately arrest two senior officials of the Ashanti regional office of the Judicial Service.

The two officials are suspected of fraudulently withdrawing an amount of 43 million cedis from the Deposit Account of the Service. They are Francis Bannor, Senior Accountant and E.K. Amponsah, Regional Internal Auditor.

The Chief Justice’s order followed a report of a committee he set up to investigate the conduct of the two officials after receiving anonymous letters from Kumasi that the two men were involved in financial malpractices.

The committee established that the reports were true and that the two men had been fraudulently withdrawing money from the Deposit Account of the Service since September 2003.
