Chief, four others arrested over alleged assault

Nana Kwarteng, chief of Twedie, in the Atwima-Kwanowma District, and four others, have been arrested over alleged assault and causing harm.

The four are Kwadwo Mintah, Jennifer Addai, Adwoa Kesewa, Emelia alias Nana Akua.

They reportedly beat up one Kwaku Antwi, at the chief’s palace, injured him in the eye and other parts of the body.

They have already appeared before a Kumasi Circuit Court, presided over by Mr. William Boampong, and pleaded not guilty to the offence.

They were each granted GH¢12,000 bail with a surety to re-appear on Thursday, November 11.

Police Superintendent Emmanuel A. Akunnor told the court that the incident happened on September 22, at about 1700 hours.

The accused persons belong to the same family, and that the relations between them and the victim had been cold.

The prosecution said Emelia without provocation went to the house of Antwi to insult him, and moments later the chief sent for him.

He responded to Nana Kwarteng’s invitation only to be pounced on, and get severely thrashed.

He made a formal report to police after he managed to free himself.
