Nii Okai I, the Chief of Darkuman, has commended the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) for its commitment to the provision of school infrastructure in the Metropolis.
He said education of children was crucial to the nation’s development and called on parents to also provide the needs of their wards to support teaching and learning.
Nii Okai was speaking at the inauguration of the 15th Millennium City School for the Darkuman Community in the Ablekuma South District, being funded by the Urban Development Grant.
He advised parents to ensure that the upbringing of their children became their priority.
Mr Justice Joe Appiah, the New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for Ablekuma South, said it was government’s policy that every community took active part in the running of its educational facilities.
He praised President John Dramani Mahama and Dr Alfred Oko Vanderpuije, the AMA Chief Executive, for their hard work in the provision of the necessary educational infrastructure for quality education in the communities.
Dr Vanderpuije said: “Aside the Government’s commitment towards the total welfare of the Ghanaian child, it is important for the AMA to also champion the course for quality education to enable the children to become useful to society.”
He said it was also the commitment of President Mahama that all metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies should enhance teaching and learning of their respective areas.
He said the Government was committed to investing in the people and transforming lives, adding that; “I am urging you the teachers to appreciate the fact that we have high expectation of you in the delivery of service.”
Dr Vanderpuije said in 2011the AMA committed itself to ensuring that it would attain the highest assessment scores of the Ghana Education Service and that; “the AMA schools had never failed this assessment due to the provision of quality educational infrastructures and the hard work of teachers.”
“We cannot leave any child behind,” he said, and advised the teachers to engage the children actively to bring out their potentials.
