Chief calls on Mahama to send volunteers to Ebola countries

The Gwollu Traditional Council has pleaded with President John Dramani Mahama to consider sending medical personnel to assist countries suffering from Ebola in the sub-region.

“We plead with your Excellency to urgently request the Ghana Medical Association and the Ghana Registered Nurses Association and other medical personnel to send volunteer staff to assist our brethren in the Ebola stricken states in West Africa”, the Gwollu Kuoru Kuri Buktie Limann said.

Kuoru Buktie Limann, who is the Paramount Chief of the Gwollu Traditional Area, said in a statement that his Council and all Sissala were pleading with the President and the two associations to support Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea with personnel as a sign of solidarity and brotherhood.

He said the affected countries were in need of medical, social and humanitarian and economic help and Ghana must do its bid in alleviating the plight of the people.

“Your Excellency, should we just close our borders against these countries and leave them to perish in their difficult situation?” the Chief asked.

Kuoru Kuri Buktie said the Cuban government was doing well in helping those countries and Ghana and other West African countries must follow Cuba’s example.

The Gwollu Traditional Council also appealed to insurance companies, communication networks such as MTN, Vodafone and Airtel to help insure health personnel would volunteer to serve in the Ebola affected countries.
