Chief asked teachers to help curb indiscipline among the youth

Osino (E/R), Mar. 3, GNA – The chief of Akim Osino in the Fanteakwa district, Osabarima Osampani II, has called on teachers and parents to help curb the spate of indiscipline among school children through joint efforts to raise the standard of education.

Osabarima Osampanin made the call when he visited the Osino Presbyterian Secondary School on Wednesday to acquaint himself with conditions in the school.

He noted that without discipline, the future well-being of the individual and society could be jeopardized and that indiscipline must be checked before the situation got worse.

Nana Ankoma Asomaning, a sub-chief who led the delegation to the school, said parents must provide the basic needs of their wards to halt

the falling educational standards and moral decay among the youth. The Headmaster of the school, Mr Kwadwo Acheampong Sakyi, commended the elders of the community for their visit and urged them to help fight social vices among the students at home.

He noted that such interactions and periodic visits could help instil discipline among the youth.

In another development, Ghanaians have been called upon to do away with outmoded customary practices to promote the fundamental human rights of the people and create a conducive atmosphere for the socio- economic development of the people.

The regent of Akim Peseato, Nana Akwasi Afrifa, who made the call noted that the outmoded customs such as widowhood rites, “trokosi,” and female genital mutilation were hampering the progress of society. Speaking at the Akwasidae festival of the people, he deplored such inhuman cultural practices, which he noted, could contribute to the contraction of HIV/AIDS, among other diseases.
