Caretaker remanded for defrauding police officer

Accra, Feb. 2, GNA – A 35-year-old caretaker, who defrauded a police officer of his golf saloon car valued GH¢4,000.00 in exchange of two plots of land at Adenta, on Monday appeared before an Accra Circuit Court. Chief Alhaji Jibril pleaded not guilty and was remanded into police custody to re-appear on February 9, 2009.

The facts of the case as presented by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Aiden Dery were that the complainant is a retired Chief Inspector of Police living at Madina, whereas Jibril is a caretaker of the Klewe Stool Family Land at Adenta in Accra. According to ASP Dery, sometime in 2004, the complainant’s friend, Manaf Abolba, who resides in Germany, came to Ghana with two golf saloon cars valued GH¢8,000.00 to sell and buy a parcel of land to put up a house. ASP said, the complainant introduced Abolba to Jibril and they discussed the transaction of buying land and Jibril led them to Nii Clement Sowah Quaye a member of the Klewe stool.

After the meeting, they agreed on the cost of the two cars in exchanged of four plots of land at Ashalley Botwe and went to inspect the plot. When the site plan was sent to the Lands Commission for search, it was detected that the land was not for Jibril and Nii Qauye. When contacted they promised to replace the land but failed to do so.

Nii Quaye refunded his cost value of the car to the Police, which had since been given to the complainant. Jibril has so far been able to refund part of the amount.
