Canoe fishermen dissociate selves from demo

Members of the Western and Central Regional Branch of the National Canoe Fishermen Council, have dissociated themselves from the recent demonstration at the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, by a group of people from these two coastal areas.

Nana Kwame Yaa-Ababio the Third, Communication Officer of the Council, and Chief Fisherman of Egyaa in the Central Region, explained that the demonstrators are rather “Premix Galamseyers” who feel the dissolution of the Premix Committee, is against them and not fishermen.

It will be recalled that some group of coastal dwellers besieged the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, in protest against the dissolution of the Premix Committee at the various landing beaches across the coastal belt.

Nana Yaa-Ababio said, “The use of our names and chiefs and authorities behind the demonstration is worrying, and a big disgrace to the Council,” and called for the immediate arrest of all those involved in that agitation.

The Council Member added: “We are grateful to Sherry Ayittey and the President for this bold decision to dissolve these “Galamseyers,” and urged the Ministry to further probe the activities of the members of the Premix Committee.
