Coventry City are expected to complete the signing of Ghana midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi on Thursday, with the 20-year-old travelling from Denmark to England for his medical examinations.
3Sports understands the newly promoted English side have agreed a deal worth up to €30m for Yirenkyi, comprising €27m in fixed payments and a further €3m in potential bonuses.
The transfer will see Yirenkyi leave Nordsjaelland, where he has been an important member of the first team since joining the Danish club in 2024. It is also set to become the most expensive transfer in the history of the Danish league.
Yirenkyi will be Coventry’s fourth signing of the summer once the move is formally completed.
His performances for Ghana at the 2026 World Cup were a significant factor in Coventry’s decision to pursue the deal. He scored the only goal in Ghana’s opening match of the tournament against Panama.
A number of clubs had shown interest in the versatile midfielder, but Yirenkyi ultimately chose Coventry as the next step in his career.
The move is expected to support his continued development. Yirenkyi can operate as a central defender or right-back as well as in midfield, giving Coventry further options across several positions.
He joined Nordsjaelland in 2024 after coming through the Right to Dream academy and has established himself as a core member of the side during the past 18 months.
At international level, Yirenkyi made his Ghana debut on 28 May 2025 in a friendly against Nigeria. Since then, he has become one of the more dependable members of the national team, collecting 15 caps and scoring twice.
His arrival at Coventry would also reunite him with fellow Ghana international Brandon Thomas-Asante.
The proposed agreement is subject to the completion of Yirenkyi’s medical and the final formalities of the transfer. The fee, if all bonuses are achieved, would represent a landmark deal for a player who has developed rapidly since joining Nordsjaelland.
Coventry’s move for Yirenkyi follows his rise from academy football to an established place in Ghana’s national set-up. His ability to cover defensive and midfield roles, combined with his contribution at the 2026 World Cup, has helped make him one of the most sought-after young players involved in the transfer.
