Ghanaian-Serbian winger Douglas Owusu has joined Hapoel Tel Aviv from Red Star in a €2.2m transfer. The 20-year-old has moved from the Serbian top flight to Israel’s Ligat ha’Al and will remain with his new club until 30 June 2030.
Owusu, who plays on the right wing and favours his left foot, completed the move on 5 August 2026. His transfer fee is below his stated market value of €4.5m, with Hapoel Tel Aviv securing the services of a player who has already collected domestic honours in Serbia.
The Cape Coast-born player enjoyed a successful 2025-26 campaign with Red Star, winning both the Serbian league title and the Serbian Cup. Those honours came after he helped FK Radnik Surdulica win the Serbian Second League in the 2024-25 season.
Owusu’s move brings an end to his time in Serbian football and gives Hapoel Tel Aviv a winger with experience of competing for major domestic trophies. He was listed as a right winger during his time with Red Star and joins the Israeli club at the age of 20.
The transfer was registered on 5 August, with Owusu becoming part of Hapoel Tel Aviv’s squad for the 2026-27 season. He had not made an appearance in the Serbian league or Champions League qualifying during that campaign before switching clubs.
His change of nationality background is reflected in his Ghanaian and Serbian status, while his early club honours include success in both Serbia’s second tier and its leading domestic competitions. The move also represents a step from Red Star, where he won the country’s top-flight crown, to a new league with Hapoel Tel Aviv.
Owusu has signed a contract with Hapoel Tel Aviv running until 30 June 2030.
