Cadres Front pledges to champion anti-corruption drive

Aflao, June 5, GNA – Mr Henry Ametefee, Interim Volta Regional Coordinator of the United Cadres Front of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has said the group would ensure that officials of all governments without exception accounted for their stewardship. That stand, he said, was in accordance with spirit of the June 4 uprising. Mr Ametefee said this in relation to alleged acts of corruption by Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak, Minister of Youth and Sports, at a short ceremony to mark the 30th Anniversary of June 4th uprising at Aflao. He said the citizenry gave their mandate to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to correct corrupt tendencies and inclinations and this required that all ministers and other government officials stayed above board in the discharge of their official duties. Mr Ametefee therefore appealed to President John Atta Mills to have the allegations against Alhaji Muntaka investigated and allow the law to take its course. He also urged the go vernment to ignore acts of distraction by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) and prosecute its anti-corruption agenda regardless of who was involved. Mr Ametefee said this way the NDC would be able to uphold probity and accountability among political office holders in the country. Mr Samuel Adablah, Interim Regional Secretary of the group, urged all to uphold the principles of the June 4th uprising with government officials being accountable to the state. He recalled the lessons the June 4th uprising and urged members of the group to renew their commitment to the principles and help stop the smuggling of fuel. Mr Bernard Frank Amable, District Chief Executive of Ketu-South, appealed to the citizenry to allow government time to make good its campaign promises. At a similar function at Ziope, Mr William Attipoe, Interim Organizer of the group, appealed to the citizenry to demand accountability from their leaders. “We all must ensure that our leaders give account of their stewardship,” he said.
