Butcher jailed 20 years for defilement

Ibrahim Mumuni, a butcher, was on Monday sentenced to 20 years imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court for having sex with a 14 year old porter in Accra.

Mumuni, 25, who had pleaded not guilty to the charge of defilement, was found guilty by the Court presided over by Mrs Rita Agyeman Budu at the end of the trial.

Prosecuting, Detective Inspector Kofi Atimbire said the victim worked at the Mallam Attah market whiles Mumuni resided at Nima.

On December 22, last year, prosecution said, at about 02:33 hours, one Emmanuel Kofi Mensah, a volunteer in the community was on his usual patrol when he found Mumuni lying on the female porter, who was sleeping with other porters.

Prosecution said Mensah quickly called one Alhassan, a security man, and together pulled Mumuni, who was half naked from the girl, who realised that the convict had had sex with her.

Prosecution said the convict was handed over to the Police whiles the victim lodged a complaint and a medical form was issued to her.

Mumuni, however, in his cautioned statement denied the offence.
