Businessman sets up education fund

Dromankuma (B/A), July 29, GNA – The people of Dromankume, a farming community in the Nkoranza District, have commended one Mr. George Donkor, a non-resident citizen of the area for promoting education in the community.

Mr Donkor, a businessman based in Accra, has set up a 20-million cedi education fund to support the education of junior secondary school students, who would gain admission into senior secondary school.

The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) Vice-Chairman of Dromankuma, Mr. Kwame Adjei, told the GNA in an interview that no student was enjoying the facility because of poor results.

Since 1999 the JSS in the area has continuously scored zero percent during the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). Mr Adjei said but for the assistance of Mr. Donkor the Roman Catholic Primary School in the area would have collapsed because a rainstorm that hit the school two years ago ripped off the roofing.

Mr Donkor provided five bundles roofing sheets towards its rehabilitation and the building is now in a good shape. During the construction of the JSS Mr. Donkor provided 100 bags of cement. He is funding the education of five students from the area, who are schooling at the Star International school, a private JSS at Nkoranza.
