Brong-Ahafo RIPAC holds meeting in Sunyani

Sunyani (B/A), Nov. 18, GNA – The Brong-Ahafo Regional Inter-Political Advisory Meeting (RIPAC) has been held in Sunyani with a call to political parties to tolerate each other’s view in the electioneering campaign, since democratic dispensation could not be nurtured without the existence of multiple political parties. The meeting, first of its kind in the Region, afforded the Parties the opportunity to discuss how to ensure free, fair and peaceful elections.

Mr Amadu Sulley, Brong-Ahafo Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC), who presided, asked politicians to talk about issues that would move the country forward and desist from attacking personalities, which had the tendency to wreck the December elections. He advised politicians to continue to educate their supporters on the rules and procedures of the elections and the necessary sanctions, if defied.

Speaking on the nomination of parliamentary candidates in the Region, Mr Sulley indicated that, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) filed for all the 24 the constituencies, National Democratic Congress (NDC)filed for 23 candidates, Convention People’s Party had 16 candidates and Democratic People’s Party (DPP) 16 candidates. He said there were 12 independent candidates, three candidates from the EAGLE Party, six candidates from the People’s National Convention (PNC) and no candidates from National Reform Party as well as the Great Consolidated People’s Party (GCPP).

He said in all, six females and 88 males, making 94 candidates would be contesting for the seats in the Region.

The Regional Director indicated that, during the registration exercise the Region recorded about 991,000 voters but about 920,000 completed the exercise and had photo identity cards issued to them. He said during the mopping-up exercise of the photo taking exercise about 20,000 more were captured.
