The Queen Mother of Abesim, Nana Konama Biyaa, has donated teaching and learning materials to six basic schools in Abesim in the Sunyani East Municipal of the Bono Region.
The items included branded exercise books, erasers, pencils, sharpeners, and soft drinks to 181 Primary 1 pupils.
The beneficial schools are Abesim SDA, Presby “A” and “B”, Abesim Methodist, Abesim R/C “A” and ” B” basics.
The donation ceremony was attended by some sub-Queen Mothers from the traditional council and the Adontinhene of Abesim, Nana Kyei Nketiah, to accompany the Abesim Queen Mother.
According to Nana Konama Biyaa, the donation aimed to support Primary 1 pupils who had recently graduated from KG2 and contribute to the Abesim Education Fund, which assists brilliant but, needy students.
She told Kaakyire Kwasi Afari of Sunyani-based Ark fm that she was enthused by the pupils’ determination for education following their graduation to primary 1 in furthering their education.
The Queen Mother urged parents to invest in their children’s education, emphasizing that they are the future of Abesim and Ghana.
Susan Yaa Boafo, Headmistress of Abesim R/C “A” Basic School, thanked the Queen Mother for the donation, noting that it would greatly benefit the pupils.
The Headmistress highlighted the school’s challenges, including an incomplete wall that allows intruders to use the sanitary facilities and inadequate furniture, forcing pupils to share mono desks.
She told Kaakyire Kwasi Afari that, despite these challenges, the donation is expected to make a significant impact on the pupils’ learning experience.
