BONO EAST REGION: MCE for Techiman charges Religious Groups, Schools, Organizations to take advantage of ‘Feed Ghana Program’ to ensure food security

Hon. Kwaku Adjei Mensah, Metropolitan Chief Executive for Techiman the Bono East Regional capital has called on Religious Groups, Schools and Organizations to take advantage of Government’s ‘Feed Ghana Program’ to venture into commercial agriculture to raise revenue and also ensure food security in the country.

The Techiman Mayor opines that, the Bono/Ahafo area noted to be the ‘food basket’ of Ghana is blessed with vast lands and favorable weather conditions for planting foodstuffs as well as rearing of animal, but successive Governments have not introduced programs that make farming very attractive therefore the NDC’s ‘Feed Ghana’ initiative would be the game changer to address these long-standing lapses in agriculture.

Speaking in an interview with the Media during a Municipal Level Sensitization on the ‘Feed Ghana Program’ which brought together Agric Officers, Assembly Members, Farmer Based Organizations, Agric Input Dealers, Farmers, Traders and others, Hon. Adjei Mensah noted that maximizing the gains in agriculture would not only ensure food security and earn the nation more foreign exchange but also help feed our local industries with raw materials which will help create more jobs as well as reduce our exports.

He charged assembly members, opinion leaders and community members to immediately mobilize by forming associations in order to become eligible for the packages or support the ‘Feed Ghana Program will offer to transform the lives of Ghanaians especially farmers.

For his part, Mr. Stephen Aidoo the Techiman Municipal Director of the Department of Agriculture threw more light on the Feed Ghana Program’s registration process and the support this initiative is bringing to farmers.

Meanwhile, Mr. Charles Kwadwo Addo the Chief Executive Officer of WAAF Agro Chemicals Company Ltd a leading agricultural inputs supplier in the Bono East Region while commending Government for the continued support to farmers also pleaded for more clarity on roles the various stakeholders in the agric industry would be playing in the implementation of the ‘Feed Ghana Program’.

Finally, some assembly members who attended the sensitization workshop expressed their excitements over the ‘Feed Ghana Program’ pledging their support to make it successful.
