Ghana’s Sports and Recreation Minister, Kofi Adams, has disclosed that members of the Black Stars technical team will only receive their full winning bonuses if the national side qualifies for major tournaments.
Addressing journalists in Accra on Tuesday, Mr Adams explained that the policy is part of government’s efforts to motivate performance while safeguarding public funds.
“The Black Stars technical team members are paid half of the winning bonuses given to players,” he said. “If the team qualifies for a major tournament, the remaining 50% will be paid. If they fail, they forfeit the money.”
The Minister stressed that the new arrangement ensures accountability in how state resources are used to fund national team activities.
The announcement comes as Ghana prepares for two crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad on September 4 in N’Djamena, and Mali on September 8 in Accra.
Adams has been rolling out a series of reforms to tighten financial discipline in the Black Stars setup, following President John Mahama’s directive for greater transparency in sports spending.
