Black Stars Promise Comeback Ahead Of Crucial World Cup Qualifier Against Mali

The Black Stars have promised Ghanaians a strong response as they prepare for Monday’s decisive 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Mali in Accra.

Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams visited the team’s camp on Saturday to lift morale, urging the players to remember their talent, experience and the hope they carry for millions of supporters.

“I know what you’re capable of. There’s no better team than you. You have the talent, the passion, and the opportunity to turn this around,” Mr Adams told the squad. “I am not here to criticise, but to encourage and support.”

In response, the players and technical team pledged to rise to the occasion, with head coach Otto Addo reaffirming that focus remains firmly on qualification. He noted that playing on a natural grass pitch at the Accra Sports Stadium would give the team an advantage.

A senior player added: “We know what went wrong, and we are determined to correct it. The win is coming.”

The ministry said the visit formed part of its wider commitment to stand with the national teams during difficult times while ensuring they have the necessary resources to compete.

Ghana face Mali on 8 September in a fixture widely regarded as pivotal to the Black Stars’ hopes of securing a place at the 2026 World Cup.
