Bawku Traditional Council bans the operation of spinners at funerals.

Bawku (U/E), March 01, GNA – The Bawku Traditional Council at the weekend announced a ban on the operations of spinners at funerals within its area of jurisdiction.

This was contained in a statement signed by Bawku Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka 11.

The statement said activities of spinners at funerals made the young and the old often to become wayward and indulge in vices including illicit sex.

“It is usually not uncommon to find used condoms scattered in obscure corners around funeral houses and under trees.” It said spinners often attracted school children that usually made them over-exert themselves throughout the night resulting in their inability to attend school the following day or even those who are able to attend often slept during classes. The statement said the spinners undermined traditional music and dancing, distorted the essence of funerals, “placing it at the borders of vanity” and diminished the religious and cultural aspects of funeral performances.

It appealed to district assemblies and traditional leaders to ensure the enforcement of byelaws on spinners to avoid the entrenchment of such social vices.
