Basic Education Student of UEW commits suicide

A-23-year Basic Education Student of the University of Education Winneba, (UEW) on Friday committed suicide in an uncompleted building behind his hostel near a lagoon in Winneba.

Solomon Obeng from Kumasi was reported dead after hanging himself with a rope around 004.30 hours.

According to information gathered by the Ghana News Agency from his colleague students, on February 13, a notice from the authorities of the University stated that students who failed in three subjects (Obtained “E” aggregate) in the first semester examinations should see their academic counselors.

And according to the colleagues of the deceased, because he was victim, Obeng decided to end his life by hanging, instead of complying with the directive.

In an interview, the Police in Winneba and officers of the Environmental Unit of the Effutu Municipal Assembly, confirmed the story and added that, the body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Winneba Specialist and Trauma Hospital Mortuary for autopsy.
