Baby theft at Tamale West Hospital

A two-day-old baby boy delivered at the Tamale West Hospital within the Tamale Metropolis of the Northern region at the weekend has mysteriously gone missing.

The 27-year-old lactating mother, Limah Addo, who is yet to come to terms with the reality she has lost her son, has for the past days remained grief-stricken and refuses to eat.

Elder brother of the victim- Agbeko Emmanuel- who exclusively spoke to Starrfmonline.com disclosed that his sister who had been in labour days earlier was referred to the facility until she was delivered of a bouncy baby boy.

After her discharge, Nuwokpo Limah 75-year-old mother of the victim in the company of a 10-year-old decided to get a taxi cab by the road side to convey them home.

According to him, an unknown woman parading at the maternity ward of the hospital as a philanthropist during their stay at the facility offered to help by taking the baby while she rushed to the roadside to get the cab.

On her return, however, the unnamed woman with the baby was nowhere to be found within the hospital, raising suspicion.

Agbeko revealed that the family combed round the hospital but there was no glimpse of the “philanthropist” resulting in the matter being reported to the Tamale police.

“We traced at almost all the bus terminals within the metropolis with the hope of seeing my nephew but to no avail,” he indicated.

Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) ASP Ebenezer Tetteh who confirmed the incident, disclosed that surveillance have been mounted for the baby thief believed to be in her late 60s.

Meanwhile, hospital authorities have declined comment on the matter when contacted. They hinted that management will officially state its position on the issue after an emergency meeting scheduled for today.
