BA minister eyes Sunyani West seat

The Brong Ahafo Regional Minister Mr. Kwadwo Nyamekye-Marfo, is among the thirty-seven National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary aspirants who have filed nominations for the upcoming parliamentary primaries of the party, scheduled for October 1 to 30, 2011 in the Brong-Ahafo Region.

Mr. Nyamekye Marfo, 56, who lost the Sunyani West seat to his predecessor, Mr. Ignatius Baffour Awuah in the 2008 parliamentary election, is however being challenged by two other candidates, Mr. Kofi Manu, 56, and Reverend Nana Adjei Ntow, 47.

The aspirants are vying to fill the 15 orphan constituencies, which are Dormaa East and West, Sunyani East and West, Nkoranza North and South, Tano North and South, Techiman North, Asunafo North and South, Asutifi North, Berekum, Wenchi and Jaman South.

Four out of the aspirants would be elected unopposed. They are Mr. Eric Opoku, 41, Deputy Regional Minister,( Asunafo South) who won the seat in 2004 but lost it to the NPP candidate in 2008, Mr Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, 38,( Nkoranza South) and Eric Addae, 47,( Asutifi North) and Mr. Philip Awuah, 58 an educationist,(Sunyani East)

Spokesman for the erstwhile Armed Forces Revolutionary Council, Major Boakye Djan, 68, and Mr. Matthew Gyasi, a former District Chief Executive for Jaman, would be vying for the Jaman South seat, while Mr. Abass Zulkarnain, would go for the Wenchi seat with two others.

Four other aspirants are vying for the Berekum and Nkoranza North constituencies and Dormaa West, Wenchi, Tano South, Techiman North and Sunyani West and Asunafo North have three candidates each contesting, whilst Tano North, Jaman South and Dormaa East also have two candidates each contesting.
