Aspiring National Youth Organiser of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Samuel Awuku, has asked government to introduce reforms to strengthen the country’s education.
He bemoaned how politicians play with education and urged that if government is dedicated to fulfilling its mandate, it should focus on the country’s educational system stressing that “Ghana is losing its future”.
The former deputy communication director of the NPP was commenting on reports that at least 182,000 BECE could be left out in this year’s senior High School computerized placement.
Candidates who failed in at least one of the core subjects, including Mathematics, English Language, Social Studies, and Integrated Science are likely to be affected, WEAC officials have said.
Mr Awuku speaking on Peace FM in Accra emphasized that Ghana’s educational structure could be heading for doom if prudent steps are not taking to arrested the situation.
He lamented: “Our educational system now favours the rich in society. It has been structured in a way that if one doesn’t belong to a certain class in society he or she could dropout. And it is about time politicians in this country woke up from their slumber and demonstrate their up to the task.”
