Mampong (Ash), April 30, GNA – Political parties have been advised to avoid posting pictures of their leaders, parliamentary candidates party symbols and other materials indiscriminately, especially on the walls of opponents.
Since this was a potential source of trouble, “this must be avoided as much as possible to ensure peaceful electioneering campaign and polls in December”.
Mr Justice Hubert W.K. Addo, the Asante-Mampong High Court Judge gave the advise at the Fourth Constitutional Week celebration at Mampong on Thursday.
The celebration was on the theme “Creating An Atmosphere Towards A Peaceful Elections”.
He said to ensure peaceful elections it was imperative for the leadership of the various political parties to educate their members and activists not to engage in any provocative acts that could lead to conflict.
Mr Justice Addo mentioned whipping up of tribal sentiments as another source of potential danger and therefore cautioned politicians to avoid it when they mount political platforms. He expressed the hope that with the institution of Constitution Week, the people will increasingly become aware of their civic rights and responsibilities, which were important for facilitating democracy. Mr Justice Addo also added his voice to the call on the security agencies not to engage in partisan politics but remain neutral and show maturity and professionalism in the discharge of their duties. Mr Robert B. Fokuoh, the Sekyere West District director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), organisers of the event called on Ghanaians to patronise all programmes of the commission so as to be enlightened on their civic responsibilities and the constitution in general.
