Atimatim residents battle with two-year heaped garbage

Atimatim (Ash), July 2, GNA – Some residents of Atimatim in the Afigya-Kwabre District have appealed to the district assembly to initiate proactive measures to clear a two-year garbage heap in the town.

They said the garbage, which is near the Atimatim market, is a health hazard.

The residents made the appeal when Mr. Oppong Kyekyeku Kaakyire, the District Chief Executive (DCE), visited the area to acquaint himself with the dangers posed by the garbage following persistent appeals from the residents.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency Madam Akosua Adoma, a 70-year-old meat seller at the Atimatim Market, said due to the stench that emanates from the garbage when it rains, many customers have moved to other markets.

She appealed to authorities in the district to, as a matter of urgency, clear the garbage.

Responding to the concerns of the residents, Mr. Kaakyire appealed to them to exercise restraint whiles he worked hard to address the anomaly.

The DCE said due to the urgent nature of the situation he would table the issue before the assembly for discussions. 02 July 09
