Association steps up measures to prune funeral expenses

The Nkoranza Queenmothers Association in the Brong-Ahafo Region has stepped up measures to reduce high cost of funeral and marriage ceremonies.

It has submitted proposals to that effect to the Nkoranza Traditional Council for consideration.

Nana Owusuaa Ayiwa, Secretary to the Association, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA), at Nkoranza that the proposal also covered marriage blessings and other social events.

She explained that the move had become necessary because of the way and manner people spent ostentatiously in organizing such ceremonies in the area.

Nana Ayiwa, who is also the Queenmother of Sikaa, condemned the attitude of some parents who spend much of their resources on funeral and other social activities at the expense of their children’s education.

This, she added, had resulted in high school drop-outs, especially among girls in the area.
