The Asante-Akim South District Assembly has voted GH?495,348.92 towards the completion of an eight-bedroom teachers’ bungalow left abandoned at the Juaso Senior High School (SHS).
The project was started 17 years ago but stalled because of the lack of funds. It has now been re-awarded and expected to be ready within five months.
Mr. De-graft Forkuo, the District Chief Executive (DCE), at a ceremony to mark the official re-start of construction works, said the assembly was funding the project from the District Development Fund (DDF).
He expressed optimism that it would help to ease the severe accommodation pressure on the school.
The DCE said education was a major priority of the assembly and that it would continue to put in more resources to provide the needed infrastructure for smooth academic work.
This tied in with the government’s vision of ensuring access to education by every Ghanaian child, he added.
Mr. Forkuo called for all stakeholders – board of governors, parents, teachers and students to play their roles well to enhance academic performance.
He reminded the contractors, Banicob Construction Works, to do everything to deliver the project on schedule.
He warned against poor job execution, saying, the assembly would insist on value for money.
Mrs. Rosina Turkson, Headmistress of the school, thanked the assembly for the intervention and said it would significantly assist to improve supervision of the boarding students.
She appealed for re-activation of work on a three storey girls’ dormitory which had also been abandoned for over the last three years.
