Ashaiman NDC accuses TMA for sidelining its MP

Ashaiman (GAR), March 17, GNA – The Ashaiman constituency members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), have accused the Tema Municipal Assembly (TMA) and the Ashaiman Zonal Council of sidelining the Member of Parliament for the area, Alfred Agbesi from all activities in the Municipality.

They held that because the MP is an NDC member, he has been left out in programmes whiles the former MP, who is a member of the ruling NPP and his executives are featured in all programmes of the Assembly and the Zonal Council.

At a press briefing at Ashaiman on Wednesday, the NDC also accused the TMA of awarding contracts to only its party favourites and privatising certain projects to non-residents of Ashaiman. The constituency secretary, Mr Bawa Ibrahim, gave instances where the MP was left out in the implementation of so many projects at Ashaiman and mentioned some of the projects as the allocation of the new market and extension of the existing ones, which would affect over 100,000 people.

He alleged that a site earmarked for street hawkers who were affected in a decongestion exercise has been allocated to the ruling party’s favourites and non-residents, and said at the moment the market sites had been taken over by the displaced traders of Accra/Tema with the connivance of officials of TMA, the New Patriotic Party, and Ashaiman Zonal Council, resulting in frequent quarrels and fighting at the site.

He also alleged that currently all spaces in the area had been sold by Chiefs in connivance with the TMA, the Tema Development Cooperation and the police administration in Ashaiman.

“The only playing field located therein has also been allegedly sold at 250 million cedis and anytime the youth go there the Chief uses the Police to intimidate and arrest them”, he added.

Meanwhile members have resolved to take to the streets and demonstrate if nothing is heard from the Chief Executive and the Assembly within five days.
