Arrested NHIA fraudster not a doctor – GMA

The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has distanced itself from a doctor arrested for defrauding the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) of about Gh¢140, 858.

According to a Ghanaian Times publication, Dr Dennis Osei, who is based in the Ashanti region, was arrested by the police following a petition by the NHIS authorities.

The paper alleged the embattled doctor is a member of the GMA, but the leadership of the medical body, in a statement, has rejected the claim.

“The Association will like to indicate that, the suspect Dennis Osei, according to the records available to the GMA is NOT A MEDICAL DOCTOR,” the statement signed by the GMA General Secretary Dr. Frank Serebour said.

It added: “It is therefore important for your outfit to carry out a thorough investigations as to how Dennis Osei was accredited as a National Health Insurance Services Provider under the false pretense of being a medical doctor.”
