Residents of Eyifua Estates, a suburb of Cape Coast, are living in a state of fear following recent spate of armed robberies in the area, which had resulted in the death of a Ghanaian domiciled in the United States.
Those who own shops in the area now close at 1800 hours while some Christians who hitherto attended evening church services cannot do so anymore.
The residents have therefore appealed to the Regional Police Command to intensify patrols in the area.
At a meeting by residents on Sunday, Mr. Elvis Asare-Bediako, a spokesperson said the armed robbers had invaded the area and terrorizing them.
According to him, a few months ago, the robbers attacked a house at gunpoint and made away with a laptop, money and personal effects and shot a young man in the chest.
He said a hairdresser was also attacked in front of her house at gunpoint by the robbers, who attempted to rape her.
Mr Asare-Bediako said Franklin Appiah, the US returnee, who was attacked and killed in his room about two weeks ago, had arrived in the country a week earlier.
His laptop, T.V, money and other belongings were taken away by the robbers.
Mr. Asare-Bediako said two days later, the robbers again tried raping an elderly woman in the area, but she was fortunate to escape. A few days later, one robber, who tried snatching a taxi cab at gunpoint, was arrested by the Police who were on patrol.
He said so far two suspected armed robbers have been arrested in connection with the robberies.
He commended the MP for Cape Coast, Mr. Ebo Barton Odro for his quick response and for donating wellington boots, cutlasses as well as some money to the neighbourhood watchdog committee to enhance its security activities in the area.
Mr. Asare-Bediako appealed to the ECG to exempt the area from the ongoing load shedding exercise.
