Apam junction accident Update: 11 confirmed dead

The death toll in the accident which occurred at Apam/Winneba junction on the Accra-Cape Coast road involving two commercial vehicles on Saturday has increased to eleven.

Two victims from the crash died on Sunday.

Head of Training and Education at the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) DSP Alexander Obeng, confirming the incident to Citi News said: “As at yesterday nine persons were killed and eleven were on admission but we lost two lives this morning.”

According to him, some of the victims who sustained varying degrees of injury have been transferred to the Korle Bu teaching hospital for further treatment.

He indicated that other victims have been discharged by the doctors at the Apam hospital.

DSP Obeng explained that per the evidence from their preliminary investigations: “A tire burst as a result…the urban bus veered to the oncoming Mercedes bus lane, led to the head on collision.”
