Angry youth clash with Military at Upper Denkyira

Some angry youth of Ayanfuri in the Upper Denkyira District of the Central Region Sunday engaged some military personnel in a fierce battle.

One young man was allegedly shot in the process and is currently receiving treatment at the Dunkwa- on- Offin Government Hospital.

According to reports, the violence broke out when military men allegedly arrested some angry youth who had stormed the premises of the Persus Mining Company .

The military men were allegedly compelled to fire warning shots when the youth kept amassing at the premises. The company had accused some youth in the area of encroaching in its mining concession.

One staff bus belonging to the company was set ablaze while one of the protestors was hit by a stray bullet during the violent encounter.

The youth also mounted road blocks, preventing workers of Perseus Mining from going back after close of work.
