Tension is heightening in the Northern regional capital of Tamale as supporters of a defeated National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate in Tamale Central set billboards ablaze.
The supporters of the defeated candidate engineer Ibrahim Seidu are burning car tyres on the streets and setting billboards belonging to the parliamentary candidate and incumbent MP Inusah Fuseini on fire.
According to a journalist based in Tamale Alhaji Tanko, Seidu allegedly lost his job as an engineer at the Ghana Feeder Roads after the NDC race and the aggrieved supporters feel he is being witch hunted by the Roads and Highways Minister.
The irked youth are riding in taxis and speed off after setting fire at vantage places, Tanko reported.
Speaking on Starr Today, Seidu said: “I have not received any communication about my participation in politics… I’m not happy about the violence and I have told them to stop. I’m a peaceful person and I don’t know where they had the information because I told them I’m working from the office.”
The police have rushed to the scene to quell any possible violence.
“Police have taken over the affected areas including Sakasaka where the guys are based,” Tanko reported.
