Anas’ video undermines “collective” trust in Judiciary – Aning

A security expert at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPC) Dr. Emmanuel Kwesi Aning has observed that the judicial corruption expose’ by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas has undermined the collective trust of Ghanaians in the judiciary.

According to him, the situation will make it difficult for Ghanaians to accept any verdict of the judiciary should the results of the upcoming 2016 elections is challenged in court. He said Ghanaians must brace up for difficult times in 2016 if political parties maintain their posturing towards the general elections.

Speaking to Nii Arday Clegg on the Morning Starr Monday, the security lecturer urged Ghanaian politicians to be mindful of their actions and utterance ahead of the elections.

“The institutional factors that prevented our going off the precipices in 2012 have either being undermined, threatened or they’ve lost that credibility to be able to prevent us from going of the edge. The onus now lies on every single Ghanaian of sane mind to be careful in the choices that we make next year. Not just about the choices but also raise our voices and say we will not tolerate particular types of behavior.

“…I think one of the most common phrases is that we will not go to the Supreme Court; Anas’ video has undermined our collective trust in the judiciary and therefore were we even to go to court and were they to pass judgment, will people accept that judgment?” Dr Aning wondered.

Meanwhile, the Forbes Magazine has said Ghana’s prosperity hinges on the 2016 elections.

“However, Ghanaian prosperity hinges on maintaining a successful democracy, and in the coming year Ghana will face a difficult series of political and economic challenges. Much like other former stars of African development and growth, Ghana risks falling from grace unless some steps are taken,” the paper noted in an article.
