An upright judiciary will help fight corruption – Asiedu Nketia

The General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia has waded into the ongoing discussion regarding the corruption scandal in Ghana’s judiciary, describing the incident as worrying.

According to him, although the NDC has not had any formal meeting on the scandal, he believes it avails the nation the opportunity to clean the judiciary of any possible ills.

A two-year long investigation by journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas has exposed massive corrupt practices in Ghana’s judiciary. The video evidence captured by Anas and his team implicated 34 judges and magistrates allegedly taking bribes to rule on cases before them.

Commenting on the development, Nketia, popularly known as General Mosquito, told Accra-based Asempa FM on Friday that, the country must aim at attaining an incorruptible judiciary since politicians cannot fight corruption by themselves.

“The NDC hasn’t met over this matter, but I think an upright judiciary is non-negotiable. So I pray for the truth to be exposed in this judicial scandal.

“Every day we keep asking the politician to fight corruption, but we must know that the politician can’t fight corruption by themselves, they will need an upright judiciary.

“ As a nation, a lot of the work in the fight against corruption will depend on the judiciary so we must all help to ensure that we are able to attain an upright judiciary because if the judiciary is not upright, there is very little the politician can do,” he stated.
