Member of Parliament for Asikuma-Odobeng-Brakwa Constituency in the Central Region, Paul Collins Appiah Ofori, has stated categorically that Ghana would be heading for doom if Mr. Kwesi Amissah-Arthur is made the Vice-President.
According to the NPP firebrand, the latter as Governor of Bank of Ghana watched unconcerned for fraudulent payment from the Consolidated Fund o be made in the name of judgment debt— an act the lawmaker labeled as corruption.
Sharing his thoughts on a wide range of issues on Accra based radio station, Mr. Appiah Ofori cited the infamous Woyome scandal and the payments of other judgment debts to justify his claims.
On that score, the MP maintained that any decision to elevate Mr. Amissah-Arthur to the position of a Vice President would be inimical to Ghana’s development, adding that he would fight toot and nail to ensure he was disqualified.
To him, Mr. Amissah-Arthur’s failure to stave-off the loot which took place at the time is a clear indication that he is not fit for the enviable position. “He failed to perform his functions and failed to prevent the fraud because the money was in the Consolidated Fund and he was the custodian of the fund, so what he should have done in accordance with the Financial Administration Act, was to ensure that the payments being made were supported by the appropriate documents,” he bluntly stated.
It is in this direction that the legislature urged the Appointments Committee of Parliament to-out-rightly reject his candidature and urged President Mahama to settle on a different nominee for the position.**
