AMERI deal controversy unfortunate – Apaak

A presidential staffer Clement Apaak has described as unfortunate attempts to politicise the controversy surrounding the AMERI deal.

Pressure is mounting on government to fully disclose the terms of its agreement with the Dubai-based AMERI Group to produce electricity for Ghana.

Over the weekend, it was revealed that Ghana’s Minister of Power had signed a power deal with a Norwegian fraudster at an inflated cost.

Critics have also descended on the government questioning the depth of due diligence conducted on the matter.

But speaking on Morning Starr Tuesday, Dr. Apaak told host Nii Arday Clegg that the deal primarily is to help fix the country’s energy crisis.

He added that government will surely fix the energy crisis despite a high level of pessimism among some critics over the AMERI deal.

“I think that the power minister’s statement must put all doubts to rest and if you have spoken to the sector minister and other experts in that industry, I think that should be sufficient…they have explained that no monies have been paid.

“People are trying to politicize it as usual…we know that there is a sector minister who has stated his position as far as what he knows occurred and I have no reason to second guess him,” Dr. Apaak said.

He added that government is committed to fixing the power crisis that has bedeviled the country over the last couple of years and would not be distracted by the controversy over the AMERI deal.
