Koforidua, Jan. 26, GNA – Ms Ophelia Koomson, Birim Central Municipal Chief Executive, has reiterated the commitment of the government to ensure that no Ghanaian child attend school under trees.
She said the government would continue to allocate funds for the construction of new classroom blocks to replace dilapidated structures in the rural areas under the School under Trees and Basic Schools Rehabilitation Programme (SUTBREP).
Ms Koomson said this when she broke the grounds for the construction of a six-unit classroom block for the Catholic Primary School at Amantem-Nkwanta in the Municipality to replace the present one.
The old structure has deteriorated to the extent that some of the pupils are compelled to study under trees and the teachers have to end classes anytime it threatens to rain.
In a related development Ms Koomson on Wednesday distributed school uniforms to pupils at Nyame-Nti and Atiankama Camp.
Ms Koomson noted that all those interventions were to help reduce the burden of parents and also make life more comfortable for students.
