Aluta Club inaugurated in Kumasi

Kumasi, May 14, GNA- Aluta Club, a benevolent society in Ashanti New Town in the Kumasi metropolis was at the weekend inaugurated in Kumasi.

It aims among others to assist the needy in society and also fight against drug addiction and criminal activities in the area. The club would also help to regain the good name of the suburb, which has produced important personalities including Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, President J.A. Kufuor and Mr Kofi Annan, former United Nations (UN) Secretary-General.

Mr Charles Poakwah, chairman of the club in an inaugural address, commended the immense contributions of such important personalities of the area towards development.

He said the club with a membership of about 100 would organize periodic clean-up exercises to beautify the metropolis and also support the needy children in society.

Mr Akwasi Osei, Advisor to the club, urged members to attend meeting regularly and pay their dues promptly to help the club undertake its activities and programmes.

Mr Osei Acheampong, secretary, disclosed that the club feted over 700 needy children during the Easter festivities.
