Asukawkaw (V/R), Feb. 14, GNA – The chiefs and people of Akroso-Asukawkaw on Saturday held a grand durbar, to mark the 10th anniversary of reconciliation, after a protracted chieftaincy dispute in the traditional area.
The durbar also marked the Annual Odwira Festival of the Traditional Area.
Nana Odam-Gyamfi III, Akrosohene, in a welcome address, underscored the importance of peaceful co- existence to development, noting that, after resolving the chieftaincy dispute, the traditional area had seen unprecedented socio-economic development.
“Since coming together as one people, we can now talk of electricity, schools and clinics at Asukawkaw,” he said.
Nana Odam-Gyamfi said the area was now “looking forward to the speedy completion of the Kpando- Dambai road to enhance further development of the area. He called on government to introduce the boarding system at the Asukawkaw Senior High School, and also
provide it bus to enhance teaching and learning. Nana Odam-Gyamfi appealed to government for potable water, saying that the only source of drinking
water was the Asukawkaw River. Mr Raphael Ogyemeko, District Chief Executive of Krachi-East commended the chiefs and people of the area
for the peaceful they are enjoying now and assured that, as long as they remain peaceful, the Assembly would
extend development to the area. Mr Joseph Amenowode, Volta Regional Minister, urged other traditional areas in the Region to emulate the
example of the chiefs and people of Akroso-Asukawkaw and let peace prevail in the Region. He said it is the vision of the Regional Coordinating Council to develop the Region into a “peaceful and a
progressive region” with a high standard of living for the people and called for support from all. Mr Amenowode advised the people to remain peaceful forever and take advantage of government’s policies
to improve their livelihood. He said government would ensure that the Asukawkaw-Dambai road is addressed and on schedule, to
promote business in the area, and that he would forward all other request regarding the Asukawkaw SHS to
the appropriate Ministry for quick attention. Nana Mprah Besemunah III, Krachiwura, commended the people for being peace loving and urged them to
forge ahead in togetherness to build the traditional area.
