Akomfrah to sue CPP over suspension

The suspended General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Nii Armah Akomfrah has indicated that he’ll take a legal action against the party over his suspension.

According to him, the party has absolutely no basis to suspend him when he has not done anything to contravene the laws of the party.

The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has appointed two officials to act as General Secretary and National Youth Organizer following the suspension of Nii Armah Akomfrah and Ernesto Yeboah who is the party’s Youth Leader.

A Deputy General Secretary in charge of Administration, Asani Tanoh will now be Acting General Secretary while Nabila Basiru a Deputy Youth Organizer is to act as Youth Organizer.

The suspension of the duo is in connection with the strong stance of the two against the controversy over President Mahama’s Ford vehicle gift offered him by a Burkinabe contractor.

The two berated their flagbearer Ivor Greenstreet for suggesting that the president broke no law by accepting the gift and subsequently petitioned CHRAJ to probe the President for accepting a bribe.

The Director of Communications for the CPP, Abdul Kadril, said the appointments were made to fill the vacuum created after the suspension of the two.

But speaking to sit-in-host, Kwasi Nsiah on Si Me So on Kasapa 102.5 FM, Mr Akomfrah stated that he has had to take the action against the party since it failed to assign reasons for his suspension.

“This is a serious issue which required serious reflection; I’ve reflected seriously on it and I have awaited my formal notification and I’ve seen a letter of suspension today. It’s a simple letter and I have passed it on to my lawyers so that I can take serious legal action on it. I will be responding on a strictest legal terms to the party.

“I have received a letter which doesn’t give me any reasons for my suspension and so I will right back to the party, it will be a legal letter to the party.

“I was flabbergasted that it hasn’t laid out a clear basis for my suspension and I’m also surprised that we have taken such a course given that hundreds of people comment for political parties and they don’t need to call their Central Committee, or go to Conference or congress before they speak for their party, there are remedies for parties every single day.

“So I’m hopeful that we can resolve this issue quickly otherwise we’ll have a very deformed party going into the election.”
