Akomea blasts National Security over unprofessional conduct

Communications Director for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akomea, says National Security acted unprofessionally by putting a spin on the arrest of three South Africans ex- police officers and subsequently leaking it to pro- government newspapers when investigations had not been completed.

Three (3) South African nationals namely, Major Ahmed Shaik HAZIS (Rtd.), 54 years old, WO/ Denver Dwayhe NAIDU (Rtd.), 39 years old and Captain Mlungiseleli JOKANI (Rtd.), 45 years of age were on Sunday arrested at EL CAPITANO Hotel, AGONA DUAKWA, in the Central Region by the security agencies for suspicious conduct and engaging in acts that have security implications.

Newspapers aligned to government and some NDC communicators claim the three gentlemen were brought into the country by Capt. KODA, head of security detail of Nana Akufo-Addo to cause chaos in this year’s general election but the NPP has vehemently denied the allegation.

However, speaking on Atinka FM’s AM Drive hosted by Kaakyire Ofori Ayim Wednesday, the former MP for Okaikoi South, condemned the action of the Bureau of National.

Investigations (BNI) and National Security for creating the impression that the gentlemen were ex -combatants and mercenaries brought into the country to confusion ahead of the 2016 election.

According to him, the action of national security smacks of unprofessionalism , adding that the needless tagging of the South Africans as ex combatants, is rather creating fear and panic among the public .

“The national security by its action, has descended into the arena of partisan politics; its integrity has been compromised as a result,”, Nana Akomea charged.

According to him, the best National Security could have done was to run checks on the three gentlemen, check their background and examine their track record as security experts to ascertain whether they are terrorists or not . A thorough investigation into the background of the three gentleman should have been done and concluded before going public, Nana Akomea added.

He advised national security to be more professional and non- partisan in their work in order not lose trust and confidence of Ghanaians .
