AITI-KACE introduces online course on copyright law

The Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT (AITI-KACE) has introduced an online course on Copyright law, the ‘CopyrightX’, to enhance access and expand ICT in the education agenda.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Centre on Monday and copied to the Ghana News Agency.

CopyrightX offers a vital chance for individuals with little or no legal background to learn any aspect of the Copyright law.

It said, this new development by the school is a twelve-week course organized by the AITI-KACE, in partnership with the Harvard Law School, the HarvardX distance-learning initiative and the Berkman Center for Internet and Society.

According to the statement, CopyrightX includes online and face-to-face discussions, pre-recorded lectures and live webcasts for course participants.

It said the online learning course, which runs until April, will give students the opportunity to learn from world-class facilitators and interact with other course participants all over the world.

All materials under the course have been copyrighted under the Creative Commons to ensure that knowledge is freely shared.

The licensing of Harvard content provides opportunity to people from all over the world to be able to understand and explore how copyright can work for them.

It said the Director-General of AITI-KACE, along with co-facilitator Sheila Clinton, expressed their appreciation during the launch, noting that, “It is a privilege that we have this open courseware provided by the kind courtesy of Harvard and the smart application of the Creative Common licensing, which has also been matched by AITI-KACE’s commitment to offer the Course for free in Ghana.”

The launch of the CopyrightX gives registered students the prospect to relate and raise questions from the resource persons, who include Dorothy Habadaa from the Copyright office, Ghana.

Students were also presented with reference and learning materials at the launch to enable them to access more knowledge on the Copyright X.
