‘Ahanta West needs investment in water’

The existence of huge water bodies in the Ahanta West Constituency in the Western Region calls for a massive investment to ensure that more people had access to water, Mr George Agbogye, Member of Parliament (MP) for the area has said.

“The rivers are not yet contaminated; we need to invest in the water resources. It can be done; it should be done,” Mr Aboagye said.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), the MP said plans to publicise investment opportunities in the water sector is high on his agenda for the area and invited investors to consider investing in the water resources of the area.

Mr Aboagye, who is former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), named some of the communities in his Constituency, which he described as quasi-urban settlements, as Apowa, Agona Nkwnata, Dixcove and Abura, with Agona Nkwanta – the capital.

“It is a very huge area in terms of landmass, stretching about 32 kilometres from a military base, East of Apremdo to Axim. Along the coast it stretches for about 50 kilometres to Amafrom,” the Legislator said.”

Mr Aboagye said potable water is not much of a problem as there is supply of water through wells and rivers, and mechanized boreholes, and “I intend to provide at least four more mechanised boreholes at vantage points in the Constituency,” he said.

He, however, drew attention to proper purification methods, to avoid water borne diseases, pointing out that, there are a number of safe water projects in the constituency.

Mr Aboagye commended the people for participating in the recent National Sanitation Day exercise.

He urged the people to maintain environmental hygiene to avoid the outbreak of diseases.
