Agona Nkwanta farmer jailed for three months over assault of wife

A 30-year-old farmer, Emmanuel Kwofie, has been sentenced to three months in prison with hard labour after assaulting his wife in an incident recorded and widely shared on social media.

Kwofie pleaded guilty to the charge at the Agona Nkwanta District Court on Wednesday, October 14, 2026. The conviction was secured by the Agona Nkwanta District Police Command.

Police said Kwofie and his wife, Diana Mensah, a second-hand clothing dealer, lived together at Domeabra in the Agona Nkwanta Municipality.

Investigations found that on October 8, 2026, Kwofie accused Mensah of having an extramarital affair before severely beating her. The assault was captured on video and later circulated widely on social media.

He was arrested on October 12 and brought before the court two days later.

The case was heard by His Worship Kuma Selorm Dzata, who convicted Kwofie on his own plea and imposed the three-month prison sentence with hard labour.
