Afram Plains Fire Service to prosecute offenders

The Afram Plains Division of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) is to prosecute all establishments, including shop owners and landlords who refuse to adhere to fire safety regulations .

Divisional Fire Officer, Mr. Eric Ackah who spoke to the Ghana News Agency (GNA)-STAR Ghana Media Auditing and Tracking of Development Project team at Donkorkrom said all establishments and houses without fire extinguishers and fire certificates would be prosecuted accordingly.

“As a division, we continue to do our bid by educating residents on fire prevention measures and we expect that they support us by adhering to them,” he said.

Mr. Ackah however indicated that, many were those who heeded to the prevention measures and as a result- obtained their fire certificates “but the few- who just refuse to follow the regulations will have to be dragged to the law court to ensure that the society is safe from unwanted fires.”

He said his outfit was working hard to ensure that zero bushfires are recorded this year, and expressed his appreciation that, this year’s protracted rains had made their work easy since no bush fire has been recorded so far.

“In any case, there are well trained fire volunteers across the communities who are ever ready to help prevent bushfires,” he said.
