AfDB supports Technical Education in Nkoranza

A scholarship package by the African Development Bank (AfDB) has been launched for female students who opted for Vocational and Technical Education (VOTECH) courses at the Nkoranza Technical Institute (NTI).

The scholarship facility, launched late last year, is to encourage more girls in the area to develop interest in VOTECH programmes as a means of creating job for themselves after completing their courses.

Madam Agartha Osei, Nkoranza Municipal Girls Education Officer, said during a meeting with teachers of Nkoranza West and East circuits that the AfDB’s scholarship was part of its corporate social responsibility to support government’s educational programmes in the area.

The meeting was to welcome Mr Godfred Axolu, Municipal Director of Education to the two educational circuits to interact with the teachers to know their challenges.

Madam Osei said out of the student population of 513 at NTI, only 21 were females and, therefore, called on teachers in the municipality to encourage parents and guardians to enroll their girl-children in the school to benefit from the scholarship scheme.

Mr Axolu called on head-teachers to respect the views of their subordinates and work as a team to improve the standard of education.

He emphasised the need for non-professional teachers to further their education to improve their standards since “pupil teaching is a temporary employment”.
