AFAG to demonstrate over election results

A political pressure group, Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG), has threatened to go on a massive demonstration in Accra next week.

The protest dubbed “let my vote count demo” is to back the New Patriotic Party (NPP), decision to challenge the December 7 election results in court.

The Director of Operations, Mr. Davis Opoku, speaking to Citi Fm on Thursday affirmed that “by next week, AFAG will embark on a demonstration in the streets of Accra to send a signal to the Electoral Commission and all stakeholders that the people voted for the NPP and nobody can twist the will of the people.

If party ‘A’ wins election, give it to party ‘A’ but you cannot manipulate and change figures and present to Ghanaians and expect that we will all accept and pretend as if nothing happened”.

He also added that, peace only happens only at where there is justice, therefore, every well-meaning Ghanaian who loves and support democracy should wake up and support the cause of the NPP until justice prevails.

The NPP is currently heading for court following the declaration of President John Mahama winner of the December 7 polls.

He polled 5,574,761 votes, representing 50.70 per cent of the valid votes cast, to beat his closest challenger, Nana Akufo-Addo of the NPP, who obtained 5,248,898 votes, representing 47.74 per cent.

Since the declaration of the results, the NPP has insisted that the polls were rigged in favour of President Mahama and the party is currently heading for redress at the court.
