Accra Included among 100 Resilient Cities in the world

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has been named and included , and now regarded as a member of 100 resilient cities in the world .
This was made know by the
President of the 100 Resilient Cities, Mr Micheal Berkowitz, who said that the AMA was chosen among 32 city administrations to become a member of the foundation to benefit from some resources to facilitate the sustainability of the two-year project.
According to the chief resilience officer, Berkowitz, each city on the network is eligible to receive grant funding to hire a Chief Resilience Officer, who will lead the analysis, planning and implementation of the city’s resilience strategy, working with different government agencies and across sectors of society.
They will also receive technical support and services they need as they work towards implementing that strategy, as well as access a variety of platform partners in the private, public, and nonprofit sectors. He added that the partners will offer tools in areas such as innovative finance, technology, infrastructure, land use, and community and social resilience.
The agenda setting network witness the Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Nii Lantey Vanderpuiye, who praise the major for working hard in assuring that Accra obtain ed that glory and call for more effort to decongest the city ..
According to Nii Lanter Vanderpuiye the city is over-populated as people visit the city daily and as a result major waste garbage is generated.In view of this he call on the Accra Metropolitan Assembly to study together with other metropolitan assemblies to share the 100 resilient cities together and to learn how to curb the situation.

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo, who was also part of the agenda setting network meeting lauded the Rockefeller Foundation for choosing Accra to be part of the 100 resilient cities and called for more work to be done for total development of the city
The Chief Executive of the AMA, Dr Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, also said that government will continue to work hard until the better Ghana agenda is achieved, and revealed that his excellency the president of Ghana John Mahama has charged all chief executive to make sure that the better Ghana agenda becomes a reality .

100 Resilient Cities (100RC), pioneered by The Rockefeller Foundation, announced that 35 cities from around the world have been invited to join the 100 Resilient Cities Network. .
